Leaves and Life.

I was just going through stuff on my laptop and that’s when I came across these photos. As I looked at these pictures, they took me back to a rainy day a few years back. Those days I was in the midst of the photography obsession phase the way all Kashmir kids go through at some point in their life. So I used to go around searching for intriguing things. I was upstairs in my parents room and from the window saw these leaves scattered in the fountain in garden. I immediately went down with my Mom’s phone and was so captivated by the sight of different colours of leaves floating around in the water against a greenish background. They looked beautiful.

I had found my perfect subject. I took tons of pictures, went back up and then pestered Yamin (my brother), showing him these photos and I still remember his expression how he very casually said ..”Oh oh ..haan buht acchi..” just the way he used to say whether the photo was good or bad — I am assuming not because he didnt want to break my heart but because he couldnt wait to get back to what he would be doing at that point.

Today when Yamin is miles away, I still take those subpar photos but I can’t go over to his room and tell him “yeh photo kaisi h?”. God I miss him. No one can make you feel happy or sad the way your sibling does.

As we move forward in life, I realise things will never be the same again. We will never actually live the way we used to. We will never just pester each other the way we used to. We live never have breakfast together like those good old days again. Whatever moments we will share , they will always be fleeting — for a month, two maybe? or atmost six. Crazy how life changes just like that.
